Global biopharmaceutical company UCB has awarded PwC Belgium a Level A Sustainability Partner 2023 badge. This recognition highlights our common commitment to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, setting science based targets under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Samar Héchaimé (Director Sustainability Strategy & Transformation) and Michèle Paque, Senior Advisor Healthcare & Life Sciences, PwC Belgium, interviewed Geert Behets, Sustainable Procurement & Risk Lead, UCB, to discuss the award, UCB’s sustainability mission and their Supplier Recognition Program.
Geert noted that the primary focus in UCB's communications towards patients and prescribers is to communicate the benefits of the medications rather than their sustainability profile. But the climate crisis is one of the many challenges we all face, and UCB sees sustainability as a core requirement at the heart of all they do and the decisions they take.
The Supplier Recognition Program is run by the Procurement department. Geert explained how it fits into UCB's sustainability vision. "Everything is interconnected. It doesn't make sense to try and give patients a better life if we don't also take care of our colleagues, the planet and the communities where we live and operate. Everything comes together."
UCB is committed to working with its supply chain partners to design strategies for carbon reductions. The Sustainability badges program invites UCB's suppliers and external partners to join their approach, and define ambitious reduction targets to address the climate crisis, by committing to science based targets.
“We want our people to care, when choosing a supplier or partner, about whether that company can contribute to UCB’s sustainability goals. Our Sustainability badges help to bring this top of mind.”
