Patent cliff, pricing pressures, and shifting regulatory expectations are driving profound change across the pharmaceutical sector. Companies are balancing R&D investment, portfolio diversification, and the growing demand for value-based care. AI-powered drug discovery and real-world evidence are accelerating development timelines, while increasing scrutiny on access and affordability is reshaping commercial strategies. At PwC, we help pharma clients navigate these pressures by co-creating resilient operating models that drive innovation and deliver long-term value.
Our client, an industry association, sought to address funding gaps affecting the preparation and administration of reimbursed advanced therapies. We were engaged to identify the relevant medical activities across the treatment journey and assess their reimbursement status. Through desk research, expert discussions with key opinion leaders and pharmaceutical companies, and targeted surveys, we developed a comprehensive view of access and funding challenges. Our role was to translate these insights into a white paper to raise awareness across the healthcare ecosystem and provide actionable recommendations to support the sustainable delivery of advanced therapies.

Our client, a global biopharmaceutical organisation that conducts clinical trials across more than 40 countries, relied on clinical operations systems to support efficiency, compliance, and consistent ways of working. However, fragmented communications and limited change capacity were creating confusion, inconsistent user experiences, and risks to adoption as new releases were introduced. The client engaged us to develop a scalable, user-centred change strategy to accelerate adoption and maximise the value of its technology investment. Our role was to standardise change materials and processes, coordinate high-impact release communications, and provide data-driven insights into user needs and readiness. This enabled smoother transitions for thousands of users, improved satisfaction, and equipped the organisation with a repeatable framework to drive successful adoption of future releases.
Our client sought to reduce logistics costs and carbon emissions by assessing the impact of a shift from air freight to ocean transport. We were engaged to evaluate the feasibility of establishing regional distribution centres in Latin America and Asia, with the aim of enabling a more efficient and sustainable supply network. Our role included developing an end-to-end logistics costing model, assessing inventory working capital implications, and evaluating the impact of customs and duties. We also identified suitable locations and potential logistics service providers to support operations at the regional distribution centres, providing a clear basis for future network design and implementation.
Our client, a multinational healthcare group, sought to strengthen its tax compliance and reporting capabilities in response to increasingly complex global obligations. We supported the implementation of a centralised framework covering Pillar Two global minimum taxation, country-by-country reporting, and DAC6 mandatory disclosure requirements across key jurisdictions. By standardising processes and introducing technology-enabled solutions, we helped improve the accuracy and timeliness of tax reporting, while reducing the risk of penalties and reputational exposure.
AI-driven drug discovery and breakthroughs in gene editing, cell and gene therapies, and mRNA platforms are accelerating innovation across the sector. Yet these advances face regulatory frameworks that struggle to keep pace with novel modalities. Tighter capital markets, rising R&D costs, and high clinical trial failure rates continue to pressure margins and heighten investment risk. At PwC, we help biotech clients adapt to these shifts by co-creating agile strategies that accelerate innovation and ensure sustainable growth.
Our client, a biotechnology company, sought to optimise its tax position by identifying and securing R&D tax incentives and innovation-related grants across the jurisdictions where it conducts clinical trials and operates research facilities. We supported the global management and reporting of these incentives, documenting qualifying activities, preparing robust claims, and engaging proactively with local tax authorities. This enabled the client to manage its R&D tax opportunities more effectively, while ensuring compliance and freeing up resources to reinvest in its pipeline.
Our client sought to strengthen how it monitors and responds to evolving regulatory requirements across its organisation. We were engaged to redesign end-to-end processes, governance, decision-making structures, and accountability models to enable more effective management of regulatory developments. AI was incorporated from the outset to support intelligent intake, signal prioritisation, and expert routing, while maintaining human oversight of critical decisions. This established a scalable, governed, and data-driven framework for managing regulatory change more effectively across the enterprise.
In preparation for a future advanced therapy launch, our client sought to define a customer service and distribution model that could meet highly specialised requirements while leveraging existing in-house capabilities. We supported a structured assessment across order-to-cash, customer service, transport, and manufacturing, complemented by an RFP involving 10 potential service providers. This enabled the client to benchmark internal and external options across cost, quality, experience, strategic fit, and operational requirements. We provided a clear recommendation on the preferred supply chain strategy, supported by a detailed three-year roadmap outlining the key phases, workstreams, and timelines required to build launch readiness.
As our client prepared to transition from clinical to commercial production, they needed to understand the impact on future logistics flows, capacity, and operating requirements. We developed a model based on sales and production plans to forecast logistics volumes and complexity across inbound and outbound flows. We then assessed alternative concepts for each flow segment against cost, capacity, complexity, and quality criteria. This provided a clear view of the preferred future logistics set-up, including storage locations and required capabilities to operate and manage the expanded network effectively.
Rapid technological advances, tightening regulatory standards, and rising demand for connected care are transforming the MedTech and diagnostics landscape. Companies are managing complex supply chains, evolving reimbursement models, and the shift toward software-driven and wearable devices. AI-enabled imaging and point-of-care diagnostics are improving accuracy and speed, while stricter compliance requirements are reshaping market entry. At PwC, we help MedTech and diagnostics clients respond to these dynamics by co-creating scalable strategies that drive innovation and ensure sustainable growth.
Our client needed to unlock additional capacity at its European distribution centre to support future growth. We assessed the full range of strategic options—from maximising the existing site and expanding its footprint to adding a second facility or relocating to a new location. Each scenario was evaluated against capital and operating costs, operational flexibility, labour availability, warehouse economics, logistics connectivity, and tax considerations. The result was a clear, data-driven view of the most attractive network configuration, enabling the client to make confident decisions on the future of its European distribution footprint.
Our client, a global leader in dialysis products and services, saw a major opportunity in India’s fast-growing dialysis market and needed to determine how best to serve it. We assessed the full range of strategic options for bloodline products, from local greenfield manufacturing and partnerships to alternative supply chain models. Combining market intelligence, location screening, business case modelling, government incentive analysis, and on-the-ground stakeholder engagement, we identified the most attractive path forward. This gave the client the confidence to shape a future-ready manufacturing and supply chain strategy for one of the world’s most dynamic healthcare markets.
Our client, a leading medical technology company, sought to strengthen its pricing approach across divisions and countries, address margin erosion, and establish a more consistent framework for profitable growth. We assessed existing pricing and profitability capabilities through stakeholder interviews and detailed analysis of customer and product dimensions, identifying priority improvement opportunities and defining a clear roadmap. We then developed a standardised price-setting framework with floor and target prices for each product and customer segment. This provided greater transparency on profitability, highlighted regions with pricing potential, and identified an annual EBIT improvement opportunity estimated to be worth millions.
Our client, a medical device company, sought to strengthen its market access and prepare for successful commercialisation in a complex healthcare environment. We developed an integrated strategy combining stakeholder mapping, value proposition development, care pathway analysis, and health technology assessment evidence planning. This provided a clear understanding of payer and healthcare professional needs, strengthened the product’s value narrative, and supported more effective engagement across the market access and commercialisation journey.
Our client, a mid-sized medical devices company, sought to strengthen its reward and compensation framework for key talent across Europe. We reviewed and benchmarked existing long-term incentive arrangements, assessed their tax efficiency, and designed a harmonised reward policy across the region. This provided a more consistent and competitive approach to remuneration, supporting the attraction and retention of critical R&D and commercial talent while optimising the tax and social security cost of compensation packages.
Healthcare providers and institutions are operating in an environment defined by workforce pressures, funding constraints, and increasing demand for integrated care. At the same time, digital transformation, data-driven decision making, and new care delivery models are reshaping how services are organised and experienced. At PwC, we support organisations in rethinking care pathways, operating models, and collaboration across the entire healthcare ecosystem.

Our client, a health advocacy organisation, sought to raise awareness of sepsis among policymakers, healthcare professionals, and the wider public, while supporting the implementation of a national action plan. We were engaged to capture and amplify the key messages emerging from a major sepsis summit. Our role included producing a professionally designed event summary, developing an infographic, and creating a white paper based on an in-depth interview with a board member. This provided the client with a compelling suite of communication assets to extend its reach, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and increase understanding of sepsis.
Our client, a health insurance organisation, sought to improve profitability and redesign its service model while securing stakeholder buy-in and supporting implementation. We developed a tailored service-centre sizing model that accounted for interaction volumes, handling times, service levels, seasonal demand, channel mix, and varying agent skill levels. Where client data was incomplete, we incorporated relevant benchmarks and validated assumptions with internal experts. This enabled the client to determine the FTE requirements for each agency group, channel, and skill level, while providing a practical set of scenarios to close the gap between current performance and desired service levels.
The current Belgian healthcare system is facing significant challenges. Despite substantial public expenditure, questions have been raised about whether the achieved levels of quality justify the costs. The fragmented nature of healthcare financing and decision-making, further complicated by Belgium's multi-level governance system, aggravate these issues. To better understand the situation and potential solutions, our client commissioned us to answer three questions: (i) How sustainable is the current Belgian healthcare system and which challenges does it face? (ii) Can VBHC be a solution to tackle these challenges? and (iii) How can VBHC be implemented in Belgium to create a more sustainable healthcare system? A series of interactive workshops was held with relevant key stakeholders across all healthcare sectors and the outcome, including a joint vision and roadmap, was described in a whitepaper.
The consumer health sector is evolving as individuals take a more active role in managing their health and well-being. Companies are adapting to changing consumer expectations, digital engagement trends, and increased focus on prevention, personalisation, and omnichannel experiences. At PwC, we help organisations navigate this shift by reimagining growth, relevance, and customer connection in a more consumer-centric market.
Our client, a leading retail organisation, sought to evolve its food strategy beyond transparency, quality, safety, and sustainability to establish a stronger role in supporting healthier choices. We helped define a structured strategy centred on consumer health, supported by clear strategic pillars, prioritised actions, and recommendations for communication and implementation. We also facilitated the client’s participation in a national food prevention council, connecting them with health experts and enabling stakeholder validation of its proposed actions. This provided a clear roadmap to strengthen the client’s position as an everyday partner for healthy nutrition and wellbeing.
Our client, a global consumer healthcare company, needed to deliver ongoing cost savings while supporting growth across key markets. We conducted a detailed distribution network design exercise, modelling and evaluating future-state scenarios against agreed cost, service, and operational criteria, while taking into account relevant regulatory constraints. The preferred scenario consolidated the warehouse network from 24 to 15 distribution centres and identified annualised savings of 7%. We also completed a market-level cost-to-serve assessment, uncovering further savings opportunities of up to 15% in selected markets through changes to delivery frequency and shipment sizes.
