The necessity of IAM

Different organisations will have various compelling reasons to consider implementing Identity and Access Management (IAM) within their environments, each with distinct needs and necessities. IAM is a fundamental principle and should be a cornerstone of every organisation’s defence strategy. The different types of IAM

Within IAM we can discern various types. Each having distinct different use-cases and set-up to perform at its best. We can usually discern it to the following four categories:

  • Workforce Identity & Access Management (WIAM)

  • Privileged Access Management (PAM)

  • Consumer/Citizen/Customer Identity & Access Management (CIAM)

  • Machine Identity & Access Management (API Security, IoT, Machine to Machine Communication, OT)

As you can imagine, setting up an IAM system for workforce identity is completely different to a a system designed to work with Machine Identities to communicate with APIs or perform authentication and authorization on those endpoints. Need help distinguishing all these different requirements or possibilities?
