Focus on skills-based hiring

55% of Gen Z believes that employers focus too much on their job history, and not enough on their skills. Reconsidering recruitment strategies is therefore crucial in moving towards skills-first hiring. To meet their expectations and tap into their talents and capabilities, integrate skills-based assessments into the hiring process. A more skills-driven recruitment process can be fostered by initiating training programmes for hiring managers to improve their ability to recognise and value a diverse range of skills, which also improves inclusivity.

Anticipate significant skill changes

57% of Gen Z anticipates a significant change in the skills required for their jobs in the next five years. Respond proactively to the changing environment by investing in continuous learning and development programmes. By prioritising ongoing skill enhancement initiatives, you can future-proof your workforce and foster a culture of adaptability and resilience.

Highlight valued competencies

Gen Z’s top three anticipated essential skills in the near future are adaptability and flexibility, collaborative abilities and critical thinking skills. Align strategies accordingly by emphasising these valued competencies within the company culture. Extending this focus and tailor employee development programmes, training initiatives and skill-building opportunities to enhance these essential skills.

Integrate green skills

Among the younger generations, there is a growing emphasis on green skills – the knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes needed to facilitate environmentally sustainable decision-making in professional settings. Integrate these crucial skills into your strategic workforce planning and organisational practices to align with evolving priorities and contribute to a sustainable future.

Foster networking growth

55% of Gen Z feels they have missed out on career opportunities due to limited connections. This can be addressed through the development of targeted mentorship programmes and proactive networking initiatives to empower your Genn Z employees to cultivate meaningful connections and broaden their professional networks.
