A further step towards intelligent lighting of major Walloon roadways
In March 2017, Sofico launched a public private partnership (PPP) as part of a "Contract for the design, modernisation, financing, management and maintenance of Public Lighting Equipment for the Walloon Region's structural network".
This public contract is a DBFM (Design, Build, Finance, Maintain)-type PPP with a total duration of 20 years. It plans for the progressive commissioning of new lighting as of end 2019 and the renewal of lighting (+/- 100,000 luminaires) with “dimmable” LED throughout the entire network during the first four years.
The Sofico Lighting project reinforces our proven track record in providing top-notch PPP services to both the public and private sectors. As sole financial advisor on the last two PPPs in Wallonia, PwC is the undisputed champion in this field.
Those success put the regional public authorities in a stronger position to initiate new PPPs in the future.
The former PPP project was for the new Liège tram infrastructure. Slated to open in the second half of 2022, the Liège tram will be a veritable transportation hub, serving 21 stations over 11.7 km. The long-awaited line will ease pressure on the saturated bus network while providing passengers with a rapid, economical and eco-friendly transportation alternative.
