The Sale of Stoffels Tomaten to Invale NV and BNP Paribas Fortis Private Equity

Stoffels Tomaten is a leading specialty tomato producer/marketer in BeNeLux with a unique business model backed by its own marketing and distribution channels. Distributing its products across Europe, Stoffels Tomaten holds a strong position in the Western European niche segment of specialty tomatoes.

The sale of a majority stake of the company, held by its two founders Paul and Petra Stoffels-Veldman, aimed to:

  1. Further accelerate the company’s professionalisation
  2. Strengthen its leading position via internal and external growth
  3. Secure a part of founders’ private wealth

There was a competitive five-month auction process, focusing exclusively on financial investors, where in the end the Belgian family office Invale and the private equity of BNP Paribas Fortis emerged as preferred bidders given the attractive financial terms offered as well as their sector expertise.

How we helped

PwC tactically guided the sellers throughout the process by leading the search for a financial sponsor and assisting in extensive negotiations, culminating in the successful close of the transaction.
