What does the e-learning programme include?

The e-learning programme includes modules and lessons that focus on accounting topics. Its main objective is to guide your understanding of IPSAS requirements and help you figure out the operational and accounting implications of adoption. It follows a hands-on approach, from high-level principles to practice. Each relevant topic includes illustrative examples, implementation tips, practical exercises, and case studies to evaluate your knowledge. On average, it takes approximately 40 hours to complete the self-study online programme. Upon completion of each module, a certificate of attendance can be issued to earn Continuous Professional Development (CPD) credits.

  • Module 1: Introduction, conceptual framework, and general principles
  • Module 2:  Presentation of financial statements and disclosure standards

  • Module 3: Fixed assets

  • Module 4: Inventories and revenue

  • Module 5: Liabilities and expenses

  • Module 6: Financial instruments and foreign currency transactions
  • Module 7: Consolidation
  • Module 8: First-time adoption of accrual basis IPSAS
  • Module 9: IPSAS and the cash basis of accounting

What other content is available within the app?

IPSAS in a Box also includes an outline of the standards and recommended practice guidelines (RPGs), information on recent IPSAS developments, and other useful resources relating to the wider public financial management and accounting policies domain.

How can you get a certificate?

Although the e-assessment module is available at any time, we strongly recommend that you take it after finishing all modules. You’ll have a maximum of three attempts to answer the 30 multiple-choice questions. The passing score is 50%. If you achieve 70% or 90%, you receive a distinction or a great distinction, respectively. Additionally, you can earn an IPSAS Certificate that can be certified by either ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales) or another preferred entity such as your national accountancy institute.

You can also take a foundational e-assessment module which grants access to a certificate (foundational level). You’ll have up to three tries to complete the 20 multiple-choice questions. The pass mark is 50%.
