European corporate performance management survey 2009
How do you manage your business?
During the last several years, companies have initiated Corporate Performance Management (CPM) programmes to improve the quality of their management. However, their experience shows that no matter how well-intentioned the efforts, not all of them yielded the expected success.
That was the starting point for this European-wide CPM survey. The main objective was to understand if, and to what extent, CPM is implemented in businesses today and how it contributes to a companies’ success.
The survey was conducted from September 2008 to April 2009 in 22 European countries with nearly 400 companies participating.
The key findings are:
- The survey revealed that although most companies surveyed were satisfied with their current Performance Management systems, perceived quality is often higher than the true value the systems deliver
- Performance Management is a board level issue – Boards of Directors are increasingly focused on organizational capabilities in this area as an indicator of effective management
- Achieving strong alignment across all aspects of the PM framework is still a challenge for most organizations
- There is ample opportunity for improvement in most organizations as few exploit the full potential of Performance Management
- Quality data and advanced Performance Management technology, such as dashboards and BI and data mining tools, are key enablers of an effective Performance Management program
- There are differences of satisfaction with Performance Management systems between industries, and between public and private sector organizations.
