At this session, we'll inform you about the latest VAT developments in Belgium and the EU and run over the major changes and how they impact your business. We'll also briefly discuss recent updates on the VAT Package.

The session will focus on recent court cases and their impact, including procedural matters ruled on in Belgium and landmark ECJ cases. And you'll get an update on some of the new initiatives from the European Commission and OECD.

To mark this year's 40th anniversary of the introduction of VAT in Belgium, we'll be giving a historical perspective to matters throughout the session.

We are organising a special edition of the Indirect Tax Academy on Thursday, 12 January 2012, with Patrice Pillet and Gary Wilkinson of the European Commission.

This session will focus on the strategy that is delivered through the White Paper and on another priority of the EU Commission, the standard VAT return.
We are happy to announce that the EU Commission has appointed PwC to conduct a study on the feasibility and impact of a common EU standard VAT return. This study implies the involvement of businesses as they represent key stakeholders in this project.

On 02 February, we are organising a free information session on the consequences of the new VAT rules applicable to sector and trade associations as from 1st January 2012.

In this session we will discuss the following topics:

  • the new applicable VAT regime
  • the assessment of the VAT and financial impact for these associations
  • the short-term actions to be taken.

We will also address some typical VAT issues such as the invoicing of membership fees within the EU, the VAT treatment of events, the VAT treatment of grants/services agreements.
